2024: How is the state of desk research?
Here you find case study where I dive into the realm of UX research, collaborating with brands like AOK.de, Danone, and bbraun.com. We used various research methods to address common usability challenges and found that leveraging resources like Baymard Institute helped us solve recurring issues more efficiently.
2023: Scan, consult, Concept, Design, Test, Iterate, Collaborate - a medical case
During a full website relaunch many challenges had to be solved. As lead Designer in this project I was involved from project launch until go-live and covered many topics along the way:
- UX Analysis - What are the key issues with the old website and how can they be addressed?
- Navigational structure (in close collaboration with our Performance Team) - How can the new website be structured in a user friendly and also SEO performing way?
- Conception of design templates - How can templates be re-used? How should specific site-types look like? How can modules be combined? How should content be written to bring everything together?
- Low, Mid and High Fidelity Design (in close collaboration with UI Designers and Graphic Designers)
- Prototyping
- Usability-Testing of the prototype - Do users find the content they are looking for? What pain points persist? Wich elements are being liked?
2023: Analysing Mental Models - Data-Driven Website Navigation
Users more often than not, behave in a different way than might be expected. When consulting a recent client regarding their navigational structure a simple "do this, do that" from my side didn't cut it for me. As an advocate of research or data driven decisions I chose a thorough yet fast approach including:
- Card Sorting
- Tree-Testing
The goal was to give an insight in how users actually cluster contents and where they were expecting to find certain bits of information on the site. Thus providing a crisper user experience.
2021-2022: When Farms suffer from bad weather
Extreme weather conditions can ruin crops and thus make the life of farmers difficult. Climate change is further boosting these harsh conditions, increasing the necessity for many things. Amongst these is a financial stability for the farms affected by hail, storms, draught and more.
The Vereinigte Hagelversicherung (United Hail-Insurance) is tackling this since 1993 (based on a company that had previously existed since 1824).
As the first and sole UX Designer a user centered design culture has to be built from scratch. This includes
- understanding broad requirements in the area of damage adjustment in the agricultural sector,
- understanding the user and its unique user environment through interviews and contextual inquiries (physically accompanying the users in their work-process),
- running a customized design sprint to get the whole team together, browse ideas and develop first concepts,
- introducing the work with digital prototypes to be able to make changes faster and easier while saving development cost of said changes,
- usability testing and iteration based on findings --> improving the overall usability and
- design culture work (initiating and planning a "Design System" Project, initiating regular "Coffee and Design" meetings, keeping close dialog with frontend development)
2020: Pandit (Concept)
Contacting successful content creators on platforms like youtube can be a challenge. These are busy people with their schedules and possibly full inboxes at all times. Pandit is an app concept that addresses this by creating a platform that allows
- content creators an additional revenue stream and ways to connect with their communities
- as well as day to day users to finally be able to reach out to content creators.
This project includes all UX Design relevant steps, such as
- Competitor research,
- user research,
- problem statement,
- business requirements,
- persona creation,
- wireframing,
- prototyping,
- usability testing
and more.
2016: Can we measure emotion with a nintendo wii balance board? (TU Berlin)
During my studies I have done research on this exciting topic.
- Theoretical work about emotion in human computer interaction
- Practical analysis of the situation
- Evaluation and conclusion
2014-2015: Myphotobook
Myphotobook GmbH had me employed as an ux researcher and product management working student during my studies in Berlin. Their editors and the overall concept of the website had to be looked at.
- User testing for the editor software
- Innovation workshop
- Prototyping the new overall experience
